Schizophrenia
These paintings were painted by Louis Wain, who had a thing for cats, over a period of time in which he developed schizophrenia. You can see how his perception of reality changed over time as the illness took hold. [Source: The Huxley Institute.]

Miniature Earth
The statistics are from the 1990s, taken from the UN and NGOs operating around the world. If anything, the numbers have probably gotten worse. Pause for a moment, click on play on the clip above. If you remain unmoved, you're a person the world needs less of.

Palm Island
This is Palm Island, an engineering masterpiece, captured from space by the IKONOS satellite. This is one of three large artificial islands being built off the coast of the United Arab Emirates. This one is almost completed. The purpose? To make this the biggest tourism attraction in the world. Hmm ... tourism .. in the Middle East.

Ann Coulter via Non Sequitur

Big Hole
I just found about this via reddit.com. It's a big hole in Russia -- a diamond mine apparently, in Eastern Siberia, near the town of Mirna. It's about half a kilometre deep and one and a quarter in diameter. It's interesting -- in a horrifying kinda way.
